DBT Groups

Skills training is a core element of DBT. DBT skills groups provide a structured opportunity to learn and practice practical skills from the four core areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.

DBT Group Skills Training

Our eight-week DBT skills group provides a supportive and practical space to learn skills for managing emotions, coping with difficult moments, improving relationships, and navigating everyday challenges. No prior experience with DBT is required.

What can you expect?

Each week focuses on practical DBT skills that you can learn, discuss, and practise. The goal is not simply to understand the skills, but to build confidence using them in everyday life.

The group combines psychoeducation, discussion, skills practice, and opportunities to reflect on how the skills can be applied to your own experiences.

What will we explore?

Across eight weeks, we'll explore skills from the four core areas of DBT:

Mindfulness
Developing awareness and learning to be more present in the moment.

Distress Tolerance
Building strategies for getting through difficult moments without making things worse.

Emotion Regulation
Understanding emotions and learning ways to respond to them more effectively.

Interpersonal Effectiveness
Developing skills for communication, boundaries, relationships, and self-respect.

Who is this group for?

This group is designed for adults who want to develop practical skills to support their mental health, emotional wellbeing, coping, and relationships.

You don't need a specific diagnosis to benefit from DBT skills. The group may be a good fit if you:

  • Feel overwhelmed by emotions
  • Want better ways to cope with stress or difficult situations
  • Find yourself reacting before you have time to think
  • Want to improve communication or boundaries
  • Struggle with difficult interpersonal situations
  • Want to build a stronger emotional and coping toolbox
  • Are simply interested in learning practical skills for everyday life

What makes this group different?

DBT skills are meant to be used in real life. This group focuses on practical learning and opportunities to practise skills rather than simply talking about them.

You'll leave each session with skills and strategies you can continue practising between sessions.

How much does it cost?

The cost is $80 per session. The eight-week group is billed one session at a time, for a total of $640 for all eight sessions.

Insurance coverage: Some extended health benefit plans cover services provided by clinical counsellors. If your plan includes coverage for clinical counselling, you may be able to submit your group sessions for reimbursement. Coverage varies by provider and plan, so we recommend checking with your insurance company before registering.
